When it comes to hair removal, waxing is the go-to for many because of the smooth results that last for weeks. Whether it’s a brow wax, a lip wax, or taking off some of the other sneaky hair that pops up, waxing is an efficient and comfortable option that delivers long-lasting results.
The hardest part of the process is finding the best place for a facial wax in your area, but fortunately, you’re already ahead of the game, there. J Just Stringz provides the best brow shaping and brow waxing, lip waxing and facial waxing all over Texas and Oklahoma, so you know you’re already in good hands.
Before you schedule your first wax, it’s best to make sure that facial waxing is a good fit for you. If you use any retinols on your skin, it’s best to skip those for two weeks ahead of your appointment. If you have been taking Accutane or other drugs that make your skin especially sensitive, you should be a month out from the last time you took it. And of course, you should always speak with your dermatologist before making any changes to your medications.
Okay! Now that you’re all ready, you’ve booked your first waxing appointment and you’ve downloaded your introductory offer, it’s time to get ready for your appointment and to be prepared for some simple after-care to make sure your waxing goes smoothly. (See what we did there?)
Read below for our top three tips of what to do before, and after, your facial waxing experience.
HOW TO PREP YOUR FACE FOR WAXING
- Let it Grow, Let it Grow…
…but don’t worry, not too long. We usually recommend that you grow your hair for two to three weeks so it’s a little under ¼ inch. This gives the wax just enough to hang on to without irritating your skin.
- Exfoliate
24-48 hours before your appointment, gently exfoliate your skin to keep it soft and prevent in-grown hairs after your wax. Moisturize your face well leading up to the appointment, but be sure to go into your appointment with clean skin, sans-moisturizer.
- Give Yourself the Once-Over, Twice
The day of your appointment, take a minute to carefully look over the area you’re getting waxed to make sure you’re irritation-free. If you have any redness, blemishes or broken skin, it’s best to call your service provider and reschedule.
Wash your face (skipping the moisturizer) and stay out of the sun so you skin isn’t overly-sensitive.
HOW TO TREAT YOUR SKIN AFTER YOUR FACIAL WAX
- Hydrate
When you get out of your appointment and for the rest of the day, make sure you’re drinking a lot of water. Hydrated skin is supple skin, and drinking water can help your skin bounce back better and easier.
- Put on a Hat
Well, you don’t have to wear a hat, but make sure you stay out of the sun, so as not to irritate your skin. You’re going to be a little sensitive immediately after hair removal, so just be ready to give it a little shelter and TLC.
- Baby That Face
If your skin is a little red in the hours after your treatment, applying a compress of some cool milk and water on a soft paper towel can calm and soothe and bring the swelling down. Make sure you keep your skin moisturized, and in a few days once your skin has recovered, be sure to keep up with gentle exfoliation to make sure your grow-out is graceful.
